H.Res.1406 - Honoring the USS Liberty Crew and Calling for Full Transparency

On June 30, 2026, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced H. Res. 1406 in the United States House of Representatives to honor the crew of the USS Liberty and recognize one of the most controversial and unresolved incidents in American military history.

The resolution commemorates the 34 Americans killed and 174 wounded during the June 8, 1967 attack on the USS Liberty while urging the United States government to fully declassify all remaining records related to the incident. Nearly six decades later, many survivors and their families continue to seek complete transparency and historical accountability.

Please contact your U.S. Representative today to urge them to co-sponsor H.Res. 1406.

H.Res. 1406 honors the crew of the USS Liberty, calls for the complete declassification of all government records concerning the June 8, 1967 attack, and affirms that the lives and safety of U.S. citizens and service members must remain paramount in American foreign policy.

Mr. Trump, Release USS Liberty Records

On January 25, 2025 President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order entitled Declassification of Records Concerning the Assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. See https://bit.ly/3WyNlaC

“The Executive Order establishes the policy that, more than 50 years after these assassinations, the victims’ families and the American people deserve the truth.”

The USS Liberty (AGTR-5) was attacked over 57 years ago on June 8, 1967, long past the 50-year limitation established by the President for the release of the assassination files.

USS Liberty survivors, their families, the families of their 34 fallen shipmates and the American people deserve the truth about the attack on the USS Liberty and the continuing coverup of that attack by the US government.

Urge President Trump to authorize the release of all records concerning the June 8, 1967 attack on the USS Liberty (AGTR-5).

Status of Required War Crimes Report Investigation

On June 8, 1967, the combined forces of the Israeli Air Force and Navy attacked the USS Liberty.

On June 8, 2005, USS Liberty Survivors represented by the USS Liberty Veterans Association filed “A Report: War Crimes Committed Against U.S. Military Personnel, June 8, 1967” with the Secretary of the Army in his capacity as Executive Agent for the Secretary of Defense. See https://www.ussliberty.com/files/public/War%20Crimes%20Report%20with%20Exhibits.pdf

According to DoD Directive 5100.77(C)(3) "Alleged violations of the law of war, whether committed by or against U.S. or enemy personnel, are promptly reported, thoroughly investigated, and, where appropriate, remedied by corrective action." See https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/ADA272470.pdf

According to the USS Liberty Veterans Association, since the filing of the War Crimes Report in 2005, no USS Liberty survivor has been approached to provide evidence and testimony as is required by the DoD Directive.

Congressional Resolution to Investigate Attack

Investigate the June 8, 1967 Israeli Attack on the USS Liberty

Congress has investigated every attack on a US Navy ship since the end of WWII except for the attack on the USS Liberty.

This letter seeks to alleviate that issue.

Request Copy of Congressional Investigation of Attack

On June 8, 1967, while steaming in international waters off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula the USS Liberty (AGTR-5) was attacked.

That attack resulted in the death of 34 Americans, the wounding of 174 and enough damage to the USS Liberty to render it uneconomical to repair and return to service so it was sold for scrap.

Ask for a copy of the Congressional investigation of that attack.
